Thank you for considering adopting a Boxer from Red Dirt Boxer Rescue! Typically Boxers come into rescue one of three ways: shelters, strays, and surrenders. Whatever their background, they all have a few things in common, they were misunderstood Boxers, who are just down on their luck, and desperately in need a second chance to find the perfect furever family. We do our best to make the process as painless as possible, but please understand that our number one job as rescuers is to advocate for the Boxers our care. We do not just want a home for every Boxer and a Boxer in every home, we want them in the RIGHT homes!

Don’t forget to visit our Red Dirt Boxer Rescue Facebook Page to get the latest updates on our boxers available for adoption, including upcoming events.

Adoptable Dogs

The first step in adding a Boxer to your family is to completely fill out the adoption application. Please note: We will deny any application that fails to provide names and phone numbers for landlord and personal references and your personal information is kept confidential. If you have a specific Boxer in mind, please list their name(s), or if you are unsure, make sure and elaborate on what you’re wanting from your new Boxer. Want a snuggling couch potato, a running buddy, a little of both? We have a variety of Boxers and activity levels to choose from, and even if we cannot find that perfect match for you right away, don’t worry, we will find the right one with a little patience.

Once your application has been received, it is reviewed to make sure adopting a Boxer is the right fit for you and your family. A representative from Red Dirt Boxer Rescue (often the foster) will contact you, your veterinarian, and/or personal references and get a feel if their foster is the right fit. Home visits may be scheduled or you may be asked to submit photographs of your home and/or property.
Once these steps are complete, you and the foster will set up an appointment for a “meet and greet” with the Boxer. Potential adopters are encouraged to bring the whole family, including any other dogs, to the meeting. Meeting your potential dog in its regular foster home is a great way to see how the dog acts in his or her normal setting and gives you a great opportunity to see the dog’s personality quickly. Multiple meetings may be scheduled at the convenience of the potential adopter and the foster home, and if an initial meeting doesn’t work out, potential adopters may request to meet other dogs currently in the rescue. If you are unsure on what you are looking for, we urge you to come out to an adoption event, which are typically held at least twice a month in the Oklahoma City metropolitan area.

Once you have met your perfect wiggly match, you will sign an adoption contract, pay the adoption fee, and welcome your new family member into his or her new life. Included in each adoption fee is the dog’s sterilization surgery, heartworm treatment and/or prevention, up-to-date vaccinations, flea and tick prevention, deworming, and microchipping. We will provide you with all of the vet records that we have for your new dog, and we will register his or her microchip in your name. (Please allow two weeks for processing and mailing of vet records before emailing

Adoption is a lifetime commitment. Our commitment to you and to our Boxers is to help create the perfect connection for each family. We are dedicated to making matches that will provide love and happiness for many years to come and we understand that sometimes, a Boxer or particular Boxer is just not the right fit. For that reason, RDBR gives a two week grace period from the time of adoption to return your Boxer for a refund of the adoption fee less $25.00 re-homing fee.  After the two week period, no monetary refund is available and “exchanges” will be evaluated on a case by case basis. Irregardless of the time that has passed, if for some reason you must ever part with your Red Dirt Boxer Rescue Alumni, we will ALWAYS accept them back into our rescue. (PLEASE NOTE: Foster care space is very limited and you may be asked to hold onto the Boxer until suitable arrangements can be made.)

Typically, the adoption process takes no longer than a week from beginning to end, but applications can be approved same day in some instances. To date, RDBR does not have our own kennel facility and ALL of our Boxers are housed in foster homes, by unpaid volunteers. We are passionate about what we do, but all of our fosters have jobs, families, and commitments of their own, so please be patient during the process. If you have submitted your application and have not heard anything from us in 72 hours, please email Our Boxers can’t wait to hear from you!

Thank you for making adoption your first option. Your new family member will be with you soon!!
